Tala Bay concludes its open water swimming championship with the participation of more than 90 swimmers.

The fifth annual Open Water Swimming Championship concluded in Aqaba on May 15, 2026. Organized by Tala Bay in collaboration with Sharks Team and the Royal Jordanian Marine Sports Federation, the event was held amidst a vibrant sporting atmosphere and saw wide participation from across the Kingdom.


The championship, held on the beaches of the Tala Bay Resort, featured over 90 swimmers of various ages. Participants competed in distances of 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km, for both genders aged 14 and above. The event aimed to promote marine sports and encourage open water swimming.


The championship also aimed to solidify Aqaba's position as a leading destination for marine sports and sports tourism by hosting and organizing high-quality events that contribute to boosting both tourism and sports activity, and enhance the city's presence on the regional and international events map.


Rami Odeh, CEO of Jordan Tourism Development Company/Tala Bay, emphasized that the championship builds upon the successes of previous editions. Awdeh noted that Aqaba continues to solidify its position as a preferred destination for water sports and races, thanks to its advanced infrastructure and unique natural features on the Red Sea coast.


He added that Tala Bay is committed to supporting sporting and tourism events that contribute to revitalizing the tourism sector and enhancing the visitor experience, while also highlighting Aqaba's significant potential to host distinguished international championships and events. He emphasized the importance of the partnership with the Royal Jordanian Marine Sports Federation and Sharks Team in ensuring the success of such high-quality events.


The championship achieved great success in terms of organization and participation, and contributed to showcasing Aqaba as a distinguished sports and tourism destination for hosting various sporting events and championships.


The championship concluded with the crowning of the winners in the various categories, the distribution of trophies and medals, and the honoring of participants, organizers, and sponsors, amidst widespread praise for the level of organization and participation.
