Tala bay hosts Aqaba’s first International Beach “Tent Pegging Championship”

Tala Bay hosted the first-of-its-kind Tent Pegging event in Aqaba, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, President of the Royal Jordanian Equestrian Federation, and in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Asim bin Nayef, Her Royal Highness Princess Sana Asim, Her Royal Highness Princess Najla bint Asim, the Director of Public Security Major General Dr. Obaidallah Maaytah, and the President of the International Tent Pegging Federation Sheikh Mohammed Al-Firouz, the Aqaba International Beach Tent Pegging Championship concluded on Saturday.

The championship, organized by the Directorate of Public Security in collaboration with the Royal Jordanian Equestrian Federation, took place over three days in Aqaba, the smiling city of Jordan. The events featured competitions in "Lance, Sword, and Pegs," showcasing strong competition and clear rivalry among the participating teams.

The Jordanian team won the gold medal in the team category of the third-day competitions ("Pegs"). 

The Iraqi team placed second, and the Kuwaiti team came third in the Pegs category.
In the individual Pegs competition, Iraqi rider Osama Loay claimed the gold medal, followed by Jordanian rider Hussam Al-Khazaleh in second place and Iraqi rider Humam Yahya in third.

In the overall team standings, the Iraqi team secured first place, the Jordanian team came in second, and the Egyptian team placed third.

In the individual overall championship standings, Iraqi rider Osama Loay won the first-place trophy, Jordanian rider Idhaim Al-Faouri secured second place, and Iraqi rider Humam Yahya placed third. Additionally, Osama Loay was awarded the Best Player trophy of the championship.

On the sidelines of the championship, specialized international training courses were held, including courses for international coaches in tent pegging, an international refereeing course, and an electronic refereeing course, under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation.

It is noteworthy that tent pegging is an ancient equestrian sport and one of the recognized disciplines of equestrian sports under the International Equestrian Federation. Over time, the sport has evolved into an international competition among nations worldwide.

The International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF), headquartered in the Sultanate of Oman, includes 47 member countries, with Jordan being one of the first nations to join the federation.
